Six people have been detained in a joint operation carried out by Portugal's Foreigners and Frontiers Services (SEF) and the French authorities related to the transportation of illegal immigrants to Portugal.

Five of the detentions took place in France, and a 33-year-old man was detained in Portugal following searches of his home and vehicle under judicial decrees, according to a statement published by the SEF on Friday.

The criminal investigation had been going on for around two years under Portugal's Central Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution, in coordination with the French authorities. Enditem
