Slovenian gov't looking into allegations of U.S. wiretapping

Slovenian authorities are looking into allegations that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) had intercepted international calls from Slovenia in 2005-2008, according to the national Slovenian Press Agency (STA) on Friday.
The government will decide how to proceed once the relevant authorities report on the findings, said the STA report quoting Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar.
Cerar's statement came after Slovenian POP TV reported on Thursday on a document purportedly showing that the U.S. eavesdropped on all phone calls from Slovenia to Brussels, Amsterdam and Rotterdam with the help of the German intelligence service BND.
Asked how the claims might affect US-Slovenia relations, Cerar said that the issue was too sensitive to comment at this point. "We have to determine the facts first, once we have the findings we will adopt a position," he said.
Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec said on Friday that he would conduct talks, first with the U.S. ambassador in Slovenia, to determine the circumstances. However, there has not been response on this affair from the U.S. side so far. Enditem
