Xinhua, November 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

A new package of government measures worth 7.2 million U.S. dollars to support women and girls around the world exposed to gender-based violence was announced Sunday.

The new funding is part of an initiative worth 100 million U.S. dollars by Britain to help eradicate violence against women.

The initiatives were announced by government Overseas Development Secretary Priti Patel as part of Britain's contribution to the United Nation's current campaign to eliminate violence against women.

Patel said the funding from Britain will help support to protect women and girls in some of the world's poorest countries from harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and domestic abuse.

The government's Department for International Development (DFID) is to team up with a range of innovative grassroots organisations with the local knowledge and expertise to drive forward action and achieve results. Endit
