Czech troops hold exercise on border control

Czech troops held a border control exercise on Tuesday in order to check the the response time of the army to join and reinforce the border police, said the General Staff spokesman Jan Sulc.

Code-named "Brana 2016", the exercise was held on the country's eastern border with Slovakia, with participation of a total of 150 soldiers from the South Moravia, Zlin and Moravian region.

Earlier on Tuesday, Czech Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky said on Twitter that the exercise has only the purpose of prevention and training.

Czech army increased the number of soldiers on alert from the initial 350 to 720 since April 2016. Another 550 soldiers are also deployed to reinforce police in preventive patrol activities in the context of measures taken by the government after the March 22 terrorist attacks in Brussels. Enditem
