Argentinian handball player to donate kidney to father

Xinhua, April 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Argentinian handball player from the national women's team, Joana Bolling, will donate a kidney to her father, Elnes, a former professional basketball player, who is suffering from renal failure.

Bolling, 20, is part of the team that will participate in the Olympic games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August. However, her presence at the event has now been put into doubt since the transplant will be carried out in the coming hours.

"The thought of saying no to donating because of the date never crossed my mind. This is more important than handball," Bolling told local daily Clarin.

After the surgery, the player should spend a month recovering and for that reason she will hopefully rejoin the team in June, very close to the start of the final training sessions before the Olympics.

Born on the Virgin Islands, Elnes Bolling arrived in Argentina to play in the national basketball league with GEPU club from the province of San Luis.

Elnes' son, Elnes Jr., also plays basketball and currently plays for the Ciclistas from Junin in the second division. Endit
