Argentinian player sent off after 8 seconds

An Argentinian soccer player from the third division was sent off after only eight seconds, a national record, on Monday after having violently tackled his opponent, local media reported on Tuesday.

Leonardo Baima, midfielder for the Defensores de Belgrano team from Buenos Aires, was shown the red card in the 79th minute, seconds after coming onto the pitch to replace teammate Martin Rose.

Referee Gonzalo Lopez Aldazabal sent Baima off after a dangerous foul against a player from fellow Buenos Aires side Platense.

However, Defensores de Belgrano went on to win the match 3-1 which was their ninth match in the Primera B Metropolitana league.

Baima, 23, began his soccer career in Boca Juniors youth teams and his current coach, Rodolfo Della Picca, said "he is young and has to learn."

This was the fastest sending off in Argentina ever recorded.

Keith Gillespie holds the unbreakable world record for the fastest red card dismissal after being sent off in zero seconds in a Reading vs Sheffield United Match in England in 2007. Gillespie came on to the pitch and elbowed Stephen Hunt before play had officially restarted. Endit
