Afghan gets life sentence for raping, murdering girl in Finland

An Afghan national was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping and murdering a 17-year-old girl in Finland, reported Finnish News Agency STT on Thursday.

The man was also asked to pay compensation totaling some 60,000 euros (63,638 U.S. dollars) to the girl's mother and other family members, and another 69,000 euros of compensation for destroying a building.

The crime happened in Pori, western Finland in January.

Police said the Afghan national, who has lived in Finland for some time, was the ex-boyfriend of the girl. The girl left the man and he got angry and disappointed.

The man was convicted of murder, aggravated rape, aggravated damage to property and traffic offenses. He said he will file an appeal. (1 euro=1.06 U.S. dollar) Endit
