SPLM/northern sector accuses Sudan army of attacking its positions in Blue Nile

Xinhua, November 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector on Friday accused the Sudanese army of attacking its positions in Blue Nile State, just one day after beginning of newest round of talks between the two sides.

"The government forces are planning for a comprehensive attack coincidence with the round of talks as part of its summer campaign thus violating the cessation of hostilities from one side," Arno Taloudy, spokesman for SPLM/northern sector, said in a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Xinhua.

He said the government forces moved from Soda garrison in Blue Nile with the aim of attacking the movement's position outside the garrison, pointing out that the movement's troops have managed to repulse the attack and seized the garrison.

The Sudanese army could not be immediately contacted to comment on the rebels' claims.

A new round of talks between the Sudanese government and the SPLM/northern sector started in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on Thursday under the patronage of the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel on Sudan.

More than two years ago, the Sudanese army launched the "Decisive Summer Campaign" to end the rebellion in South Kordofan and Blue Nile States. Enditem
