Algeria arrests 3 IS affiliated suspects

Xinhua, November 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Algerian police have recently arrested three men suspected of belonging to a terrorist group affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) group, a security source revealed to Xinhua on Friday on condition of anonymity.

The first suspect was arrested on Wednesday in the province of Laghouat, 400 km south of Algiers.

He is suspected of recruiting youngsters for Daesh (IS in Arabic), the source specified. The two other individuals were intercepted Thursday in the province of Bouira, 100 km southeast of Algiers, as they are charged with collecting money for Jund al-Khilafa, a local terrorist group affiliated to Daesh.

Algerian security forces have been put on high alert following the attacks of Paris last Friday. Authorities have beefed up security measures around sensitive sites, including those frequented by Westerners, the source concluded. Endit
