British PM offers condolences to victims of hotel attack in Mali

British Prime Minister David Cameron offered his condolences to the victims of an attack on Friday at a hotel in Mali's capital Bamako.
"My thoughts are with those caught up in the Bamako attack. We stand with our partners around the world in the fight against terrorism," he said via his Twitter account.
A hostage situation developed as gunmen attacked the Radisson Blu hotel in Mali's capital Bamako on Friday, local media reported. As many as 170 people were reportedly held hostage by armed gunmen. A reported 18 people were killed.
The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said in a statement: "We're aware of the situation in Mali and are in close touch with the authorities following the attack on the Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako."
The FCO also changed its travel advice to Mali, urging British nationals to "remain indoors and follow instructions of local authorities."
"The situation in Mali is still unstable. You should maintain several days' stock of food and water in case disturbances take place," the FCO advised in its latest travel notice.
"Further attacks are highly likely in northern Mali, though the threat exists throughout the country. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners," it warned. Endit
