Premier Li meets Myanmar President U Thein Sein

Xinhua, September 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Myanmar President U Thein Sein on Friday, urging joint efforts to maintain stability in border areas and hoping Myanmar to continue playing its constructive role in pushing China-ASEAN relations.

Li said during his visit to Myanmar last November, he reached wide consensus on boosting bilateral relations and deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation with President U Thein Sein.

China expects both sides to firmly lead the direction of bilateral relations, consolidate friendship, expand substantial cooperation and increase exchange in personnel and culture, said Li when talking with U Thein Sein in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The Myanmar president attended China's commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

"Both sides need to make joint efforts to maintain peace and stability in the border areas to promote common development," said Li.

China is willing to accelerate the cooperation in infrastructure and other sectors and implement the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar economic corridor plan, said the Chinese premier.

Efforts should be made to further facilitate transport, carry out industrial cooperation and enhance cooperation in agriculture, water facilities and post-disaster rebuilding, said Li.

Li said he hoped Myanmar would continue to play a constructive role in boosting China-ASEAN relations.

U Thein Sein thanked China for offering timely aid in Myanmar's flood disasters, hoping China could continue to help build water facilities in Myanmar.

Myanmar will work actively to implement the important consensus reached during Li' s visit last year and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure and increase exchange among youths and in education, he said. Endi
