150 infants die in E. India

Xinhua, September 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

More than 150 infants died in the eastern Indian state of Odisha between April and July this year, a health official said Friday.

"All the infant deaths happened in different hospitals in the state's tribe-dominated Kandhamal district," he said, on condition of anonymity.

There is not one pediatrician in the district.

"There are no pediatrician in 12 community health centers, two area and sub-divisional hospitals. The district needs at least 19 to ensure proper child care," Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Sapaneswar Gadanayak told the media.

"We are trying to convince the tribes to go for institutional delivery." Endi
