3 Indians get 20 years each for rape of Japanese tourist

Xinhua, September 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

An Indian court Friday sentenced three men to 20 years in jail for the rape of a 19-year-old Japanese tourist in the western state of Rajasthan in February this year.

The court also convicted three others for hatching a conspiracy to gangrape the tourist, but is yet to pronounce the quantum of sentence, sources said.

However, three other suspects in the case were acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence, the sources said.

The Japanese tourist was befriended by the main accused, 24- year-old Ajit Chaudhary, who raped and then dumped her at an isolated location, some 60 km from state capital Jaipur.

Ajit had also hatched a plan with other accomplices to gangrape her, but she managed to escape and approach the police. Endi
