Xinhua, September 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, on Friday met with Irina Bokova, director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on female education.

Bokova is in Beijing for China's commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

China's development benefits from preferential development of education, and the rising status of Chinese women can not be separated with the widespread female education, Peng said.

"I will continue to fulfill the mission of special UNESCO envoy for the promotion of women's education to fight for rights of education for women and girls," she said.

Bokova congratulated China on the successful V-Day commemorations, and spoke highly of Chinese government and Peng herself for their contribution to promoting female education.

China has exerted great effort by setting up funds and other ways to help improve girls' and women's education in Africa and Asia. Endi
