Aung San Suu Kyi believes election can shape Myanmar's future

Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi said on Saturday that she believes the upcoming general election can shape the country's future.

Suu Kyi made the remarks while attending an election knowledge dissemination meeting at Kyaiklat in the country's southwestern Ayeyarwady Region.

The meeting was the first of its kind after the National League for Democracy (NLD) with Suu Kyi as its chairperson made a decision to compete in the general election slated for November 8.

If NLD wins the election, priority will be given to national reconciliation, Suu Kyi said, stressing that "I'd be satisfied if I would serve for the interests of country's people rather than for presidential position."

Suu Kyi also called for amending the 2008 constitution, promoting the qualification of judges and lawyers as well as that of police force.

The opposition leader will compete in her original constituency- Kawmu in which she won the 2012 by-election as a representative to the House of Representatives (Lower House).

In the upcoming general election, NLD will compete in all three levels of the parliament and in 1,158 constituencies, including 330 with the House of Representatives, 168 with the House of Nationalities (Upper House) and 660 with the Region or State Parliament. Endi
