At least nine people including a local chief have been killed in the latest village attack by Boko Haram in Nigeria's northeastern Borno State, a military source told Xinhua Saturday.
The military source who craved anonymity said the attack was carried out late Thursday, in Pompari Village, the homestead of Nigeria's army chief, Major General Tukur Buratai.
Ruthless Boko Haram fighters stormed the village which is located in Biu local district, some 187 km south of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, killing everyone in sight, the military source said.
Aminu Danladi, a resident and survivor of the attack, said his uncle was among those killed by the attackers. "The village head was also shot dead during the two-hour attack," he added.
Boko Haram stepped up its attacks in the northeastern region of Nigeria since May 29, after President Muhammadu Buhari announced the relocation of the military command center to Borno State in a bid to rout the terror group from its stronghold.
Nigeria has been in battle with Boko Haram since 2009. Endit
