Sierra Leone launches Ebola recovery plan

Xinhua, July 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sierra Leone's President Ernest Koroma has formally launched his post Ebola recovery programme with emphasis on health, education, agriculture and social partnership.

According to the country's national broadcaster on Saturday, Koroma gave the background of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone for the first time during which it caused thousands of deaths. It impacted the country's economy growth and reversed the country's gains.

The president said with the launch of the programme he has set up a delivery programme at the state house to ensure a proper coordination and the delivery of the programme.

Koroma urged his people that from now on, "support must reach those who need it, seeds must reach the farmers and medicines reach the sick."

He commended international community's efforts in assisting West Africa in fighting the deadly epidemic.

He called for the pledges to be delivered in time "for them to become facts on the ground." He said the generosity of the international community demonstrates the community's confidence in the country's fight against Ebola and its economic recovery programme.

On the Ebola situation in the country, Koroma said 10 out of the 14 districts in the country has gone for more than 90 days without a case while another three districts have not registered a single case of Ebola since the beginning of the year. Endit
