Chinese financed secondary school inaugurated in Ethiopia

A secondary school funded by a Chinese company was inaugurated recently with colorful celebration in Dengolat town in the Regional State, about 750 km north of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital.

Financed by, CGC Overseas Construction Group (CGCOC), Dengolat Secondary School has been built with 22 classrooms, 3 science laboratories, 2 information and communication technology (ICT) rooms, a library, and a multipurpose hall among others in line with TDA’s committed initiative of realizing construction of standard schools in the region.

The newly inaugurated secondary school is said to have significant contribution to the efforts of ensuring quality education, and it enables the students in the locality and its environs to further pursue their study to higher level as it addresses the hardship of travel and afford for education in distant areas away from their homes.

Reiterating that Ethiopia and China have been enjoying long and profound friendship, You Yi, Cultural Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, said the two countries have made many great achievements of cooperation in various fields such as road constructions, water supply, electric power, information technology as well as in the field of people-to-people relation.

The counselor said China and Ethiopia have implemented various projects in the education sector.

With an agreement reached earlier between the two governments, China provides scholarship to Ethiopian students to study in China while it also sends Chinese students to study in Ethiopia, according to the counselor.

He further said Chinese companies operating in Ethiopia have been contributing share to the education sector here in the country. Endit
