Indonesia to host badminton super series tournament

Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesia was scheduled to host international badminton tournament of 2015 Indonesia Open Super Series from June 2 to 7, offering a total reward of 800 thousand U.S. Dollars, a tournament organizer official said here on Monday.

The tournament sanctioned by BWF (Badminton World Federation) would be participated by around 500 players from 20 countries, Indonesian Badminton Federation (PBSI) Chairman Gita Wirjawan said.

"BWF has assessed that the organizing of Indonesia Open Super Series 2014 was one of the bests in the world. The PBSI was very proud to become the party trusted by the BWF," Gita told a press conference here.

He said that total reward of the upcoming international badminton tournament was 50,000 U.S. Dollars higher than 750,000 U.S. Dollars provided last year.

Gita added the total reward provided by the organizing committee in the tournament this year was the second largest in the world after BWF Super Series Master Finals held in Dubai late last year that provided 1,000 U.S. Dollars.

Gita added that competition among players contending in the upcoming Indonesia Open 2015 tournament would be tight as they would seek points prior to the 2016 Olympic Games set to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Endi
