Update 1: Four die in shooting by soldier at Tunisian barracks

Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

The toll in Monday's shooting at a security barrack in the Tunisian capital rose to four, the TAP news agency reported.

The four dead included a soldier, who opened fire indiscriminately on his comrades at the the Bouchoucha barracks, TAP said, citing a source at the Tunis military hospital.

Over 15 were wounded in the incident, the agency said.

Belhasaan Oueslati, spokesman for the Defense Ministry, earlier told radio Mosaique FM that nine people were wounded in the shooting.

The assailant was not supposed to carry weapons at the time of the attack, Oueslati said.

There has been no word on what prompted the solider to fire on his colleagues.

The Defence Ministry will hold a press conference on the incident shortly.

Tunisia has conducted operations against suspected Islamist militants since March when two gunmen fired on tourists at the Bardo museum, killing 21 foreigners.

The site of Monday's shooting is not far away from the museum. Endit
