Vietnam, U.S. jointly hold Pacific security experts' meeting

Security experts gathered Monday in Vietnam at an annual meeting of the Pacific Area Security Sector Working Group 2015 (PASSWG 2015) to discuss measures to respond to security threat.

PASSWG 2015 was co-held by Vietnam's Ministry of Defense (MoD)' s Department of Foreign Relations and the United States Special Operations Command Pacific (SOCPAC) in Vietnam's central Da Nang city, some 600 km south of capital Hanoi.

The event drew some 80 delegates from 10 countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), ASEAN Secretariat, Australia, Canada, Japan and Mongolia.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Do Thanh Binh, commander of MoD's Commando said the meeting, themed "Security for a human- centered ASEAN", will provide chance for experts to share experience and seek measures to respond to common threat for a goal of peace, development, prosperity of the region and the world.

In addition to the main theme, a number of sub-topics will be discussed at the meeting, including humanitarian assistance and disaster rescue, maritime security, combating terrorism and anti- terrorism experience of the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand, among others.

PASSWG 2015 is scheduled to last till Friday, according to Quan Doi Nhan Dan (People's Army), an online newspaper under Vietnam's MoD. Endi
