Myanmar beats Australia U-20 to enter AFF Women's Championship final

Myanmar scored the only goal of the first semifinal against Australia U-20 here Friday to be present at the 2015 AFF Women's Championship final.

In the semifinal match, Australian players continued to exhibit their physical and tactical advantages, but found it hard to block frequent attacks by their Myanmar rivals, especially Naw Phaw and Yee Oo. Australian 16-year-old striker Alexandra Chidiac had good attack tactics and was physically strong, but failed to score as expected.

Six minutes into the second half, Myanmar 28-year-old midfielder tapped in the cross from veteran striker Khin Marlar Tun to defeat Australian 18-year-old goalie Teagan Micah.

In the previous Group A games, Australia U-20 whitewashed Indonesia 7-0, Laos 1-0 and Thailand 3-0.

With the victory of 1-0 over Australia U-20, Myanmar will, on Sunday, clash with the winner of the second semifinal between hosts Vietnam and Thailand on Friday evening. After the match, Myanmar head coach Htet Win said: "It really does not matter who we play against in the final. Our target is to bag home the trophy."

Australian head coach Ante Juric said: "They (Australian players) are still young girls and I thought that they played really well. They never give up."

Thailand, visiting Australia U-20, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and the Philippines have attended the 2015 AFF Women's Championship from May 1-10. Japan won the title in the previous tournament. Endi
