BJP says it will oppose resolution on Afzal Guru in Indian-controlled Kashmir lawmaking body

The rightwing Hindu nationalist Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) said it would oppose resolution in the lawmaking body of Indian-controlled Kashmir seeking mortal remains of Indian parliament attack convict Mohammed Afzal Guru here on Thursday.
"The efforts made by vested interests to vitiate peace and tranquillity of the state will be thwarted by BJP by concerted and strong efforts,"region's BJP chief spokesman Sunil Sethi said.
An independent legislator Abdul Rashid Sheikh moved two resolutions in the lawmaking body for upcoming session on Wednesday, seeking return of mortal remains of Guru and release of all political prisoners.
According to Sethi, pressing for resolution on Guru was an attempt to give fresh impetus to dying militancy in the region.
"We will never allow this to happen," he said. "Guru's mortal remains coming to state will be rallying point for anti- national forces and will be used by militants and separatists to carry forward their nefarious agenda."
BJP has already cited reservations over the release of a separatist leader and said they won't allow release of political prisoners in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
BJP has emerged as second largest party in the region and are heading a coalition government with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sheikh claimed he has support of Congress party and PDP legislators for the resolution on Wednesday.
Guru, a former militant was executed for his role in 2001 Indian parliament building attack, was hanged and buried in New Delhi's Tihar jail in 2013.
Many in the region believe Guru was denied fair-trail.
In 2011 Sheikh brought resolution of clemency for Guru.
However, BJP and Congress grounded the resolution when they created ruckus in the lawmaking body. Endi
