Xinhua, March 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mount Saputan in Indonesia's North Sulawesi erupted Saturday afternoon, spewing a column of volcanic ash up to 4.5 km to the sky.

There were no reports of casualties and no evacuation is ordered so far.

The eruption occurred at 17:09 p.m. local time, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster management agency, told Xinhua via phone.

A dangerous zone has been declared at the radius of 6.5 km from the crater, he said.

Mount Soputan is located some 60 km from Manado, capital of North Sulawesi province and is one of the Indonesia's active volcanoes, according to the National Volcanology Agency. Endi
