UAE air forces strike IS oil pipelines

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) supreme command of armed forces said on Saturday that its squadron of F-16 fighter jets attacked the Islamic State's (IS) forces near its crude oil pipelines, state news agency WAM reported.

WAM said the strikes were launched in the night from Friday to Saturday and aimed to dry up "the terror group's sources of funding."

It added that the IS forces use captured oil pipelines to smuggle crude oil from those fields they have controlled in the north of Iraq and Syria.

The report said that the F-16 military planes hit their targets and returned safely to their base in Jordan, but didn't mention the exact location that the air strikes were carried out.

The UAE is one of five Arab states that joined a U.S.-led military coalition against the jihadist militants, which aim to establish an "Islamic caliphate" in Iraq and Syria. Endit
