Chinese prosecutors told to handle case properties lawfully

Prosecutors must freeze case-related money and materials in line with the law and such properties must be kept from harm, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).
Prosecuting organs must stick to related laws and regulations when they "seal, impound, freeze, store or dispose of" case-related money or materials, said an SPP regulation on the management of properties involved in criminal cases released Saturday.
The stipulation is aimed at addressing a phenomenon that some prosecutors handle case properties at will without going through official channels.
The rules stressed that prosecutors working on a case must hand properties related to the case to supervising units for safekeeping, and money confiscated should be wired into an officially designated account.
The regulation noted that case supervisors are responsible for uncovering and correcting improper ways of handling such properties, calling for strengthened daily management to guard case properties from damages or disappearing. Endi
