The Liangjiang New Area, covering 1,200 square kilometers, was set up on June 16, 2010. It is China’s only inland and third state-level new area.
By 2020, the GDP of Liangjiang New Area is expected to reach 1 trillion yuan (US$164.74 billion), and the foreign direct investment attracted by the new area will account for 70 percent to 80 percent of Chongqing’s total.
