Boiler explosion kills 4, injures 11 in Vietnam

A gas cylinder and boiler explosion occurred at a shell-fish processing facility in Vietnam's northern Thai Binh province on Sunday, killing four workers and injuring 11 others.

The accident in Thuy Hai Commune, Thai Thuy District when 19 workers were using the boiler to boil shell-fish to produce fish paste, the provincial police said, noting that four people managed to escape the explosion.

The four victims were women aged over 50 from Thai Thuy. The explosion collapsed the facility with an area of 100 square meters, and damaged some nearby residential houses.

A total of 2,460 fires and explosions broke out across Vietnam in the first nine months of this year, killing 90 people and injuring 216 others, while leaving losses of some 1,058 billion Vietnamese dong (47.4 million U.S. dollars), said the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department. Enditem
