Bale signs new Madrid contract

Xinhua, October 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid confirmed on Sunday that Welsh international Gareth Bale has signed a new contract with the club.

The club website (www.realmadrid.com) reports the 27-year-old, who joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 from Tottenham Hotspurs, has extended his stay in the Spanish capital until the end of June 2022, when he will be just days off his 33rd birthday.

Currently in his fourth season with Madrid, Bale has scored 50 goals in 84 league appearances and 12 from 36 appearances in other competitions, such as the Champions League and the King' s Cup. He was also vital in Madrid' s Champions League triumphs over neighbors Atletico Madrid in 2014 and 2016.

Bale' s new contract is part of the club policy of extending the deals of their key players in the face of the FIFA transfer ban which will not allow them to make new signings until 2018.

Luka Modric, Tony Kroos, Lucas Vazquez and Bale have all signed new contracts in the last month, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe likely to follow suit in the near future as Real Madrid look to assure the long-term future of the team. Endit
