Jordan hosts 2016 Women in Parliaments Global Forum

Jordan on Wednesday hosted the the 2016 Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) that seeks to enhance the role of women in parliaments and the decision-making process, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

At the opening of the two-day event, Jordan's Senate President Feisal Fayez stressed on the key role for women empowerment in parliaments, referring to Jordan's experience and reforms in this regard.

He also referred to Jordan's efforts to strengthen acceptance of others and spread the message of tolerance, stressing on the key role Jordan plays in protecting the image of Islam and fighting terrorist groups.

The official added that women politicians play a key role in attaining peace at a global level, calling for more empowerment of women to help in resolution of conflicts and tensions.

Women empowerment, he said, is also crucial for development of all countries.

The forum attracted some 260 women parliamentarians from 89 countries.

Several issues related to women parliamentarian and challenges and opportunities they face are scheduled to be discussed during the forum. Endit
