The Jordan Armed Forces on Wednesday said it seized spying drone the Islamic State (IS) sent over Jordanian territories in addition to carrier pigeons it used to deliver messages to a resident in the country.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Commander of the Jordan Border Guards Brigadier General Saber Mahayreh also said Jordan asked the warring parties in Syria to keep away from the Jordanian borders for at least seven kilometers to ensure the safety of Jordanians.

"We are on alert around the clock and our borders are safe and under control," he said Wednesday.

He added that any group that comes closer than seven kilometers to Jordan will face response from the Jordanian army.

He said there are more than 80 groups that are fighting in Syria and they receive support from various entities.

The commander said there are some 59,000 Syrian refugees stranded at no man's land between Jordan and Syria, adding that more than 5,000 refugees coming from Aleppo arrived in Jordan over the past 24 hours. Endit
