Benin beats South Sudan in AFCON qualifiers

Benin beat South Sudan 2-1 in a tightly contested African Cup of Nations qualifier match on Wednesday in Juba.

Stephane Sessegnon, the West Brom forward netted the opener in the 16 minutes for Benin and the second came on the 74th minute while South Sudan scored in the 88 minutes.

The result sends Benin on top of group C with five points ahead of Mali, four, which will play bottom team Equatoria Guinea on Friday.

South Sudan will have a trip to Benin for the return leg on March 27.

The match was watched by new FIFA president Gianni Infantino after he had inaugurated the South Sudan Football Association's office. Endit
