Second level of security alert won't limit Slovak citizens

Xinhua, March 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

The second level of security alert in Slovakia means an increased number of police officers on duty and police patrols in the streets, with no limitations whatsoever for citizens in their professional and public lives, an official said.

"These increases focus on places of greater concentration of people such as airports, bus stations, shopping centres and on the roads," said Slovak Police Corps Presidium spokesperson Martin Waldl on Wednesday.

Waldl also said that police officers will monitor the situation at places of former border posts.

"They perform patrol duties, check people, vehicles, luggage and luggage compartments. Other police units have also their activities adjusted to the current situation," stressed Waldl.

Slovak Armed Forces spokesman Stefan Zemanovic said that the army performs its duties in a standard way in such a situation.

The Defence Ministry earlier in March reported that it has reserved 800 soldiers for joint patrols with police officers if such a situation arises.

Slovakia earlier on Wednesday declared a second level of security alert in the country following Tuesday's attacks in Brussels. Endit
