Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi announced here on Wednesday the Houthi rebel group has approved to implement the UN Security Council resolution 2216, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Hadi made the announcement in an extraordinary meeting with the ambassadors of the 18-member transit process sponsoring countries to Yemen.

He said the UN special envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed has informed him that the Houthi rebels have accepted to carry out the UN resolution.

Earlier on Wednesday, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed told a press conference in New York that the warring parties in

Yemen have agreed to a cessation of hostilities starting at

midnight on April 10 and peace talks in Kuwait beginning April

18.

Yemen has been mired in an all-out civil war since September 2014, when the Shiite Houthi group backed by forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh invaded the capital Sanaa and drove President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi into exile. The war has killed nearly 6,000 people, mostly civilians.
