19 suspects arrested after terror attack in Bamako

Xinhua, March 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nineteen suspects, including 18 Malians and one Togolese national, were arrested following Monday's terrorist attack at Nord-Sud hotel in Bamako, Director General of Mali police Moussa Ag Infahi said Tuesday.

The hotel was attacked by three or four assailants who were carrying light weapons, security sources said.

The hotel has been serving as the headquarters of the European Union Training Mission (EUTM), which trains the Malian army.

EUTM soldiers and Malian guards at the hotel managed to respond quickly, killing one of the terrorists and pushing the rest back.

The identity of one of the assailants who was killed by the Malian guards at the hotel is not yet known, but local media said he was a young man aged about 16 years.

One of the other assailant who was injured during the attack is on the run and Mali police are still searching for him.

The hotel is situated not far from Radisson Blu hotel that came under attack on Nov. 20, 2015, leaving 20 people dead.

The UN peacekeeping mission in Mali released a statement on Tuesday, condemning the attack at Nord-Sud hotel. Enditem
