Republic of Congo president leading with 67. 02 pct: provisional results

The head of Republic of Congo's NationaL Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) Henri Bouka on Tuesday released the first provisional results of the March 20 presidential elections which placed incumbent President Denis Sassou N'Guesso in the lead with 67.02 percent.

"Sassou N'Guesso is followed by Guy Brice Parfait Kolelas with 16.95 percent of the votes and Gen. Jean Marie Michel Mokoko is third with 7.5 percent," Bouka said when he released the results in Brazzaville.

The CENI boss said the results were based on tallies received from 72 out of 111 electoral constituencies in the country.

He said the voter turn out stood at 65 percent.

Final results of the first round of the presidential elections will be published soon by the Congolese Interior Minister Raymond Zephirin Mboulou.

A total of nine candidates contested in the elections in which over two million Congolese voters cast their ballots. Endit
