Burkina Faso sets up organ to promote national reconciliation, unity

Xinhua, March 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore on Tuesday announced the formation of a 21-member body to promote national reconciliation and unity in the country.

Kabore said the formation of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation and Unity that is comprised of members from all socio-professional groups was a response to his campaign promises.

"It is a major act that demonstrates our commitment to the common values of peace, national cohesion, good governance and the fight against impunity," he said, adding that the body will greatly contribute to stabilizing the country.

The president of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation and Unity Benoit Kambou said his institution's main mandate will be "addressing the sad past to create a friendly present."

"The peace we intend to restore has no price. It requires support from all public institutions as well as the entire Burkinabe population to be achieved," he said. Endit
