Singapore stocks close 2.98 pct lower

Singapore stocks finished lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 78.70 points, or 2.98 percent, to close at 2,559.77.

A total of 1.09 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.22 billion Singapore dollars (845.9 million U.S. dollars).

Decliners outnumbered gainers 355 to 79, while 490 others finished unchanged.

The STI index gained 45.47 points, or 1.75 percent, to close at 2,638.47 on Tuesday. Endit
