Lebanon seizes 100 kilograms of cocaine at airport

Xinhua, January 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Lebanon Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil said Tuesday that the Customs agents at Beirut Rafic Hariri airport seized 100 kilograms of cocaine concealed in dry fruits containers destined from Peru.

Khalil said in a press conference at the airport "the efforts to smuggle such a large quantity of drugs to Lebanon is the kind of terrorism we are facing," commending the custom department for this "historical success."

He noted that the value of the seized drugs is about 1.66 million U.S. dollars, revealing that two people were arrested in relation to the case without elaborating.

The Lebanese authorities thwarted during the last months many drug smuggling operations, including the case on December 29, 2015 when they seized at Beirut port three tons of captagon pills concealed in wooden chairs ready to be shipped to Egypt. Endit
