3 Palestinians killed in violent Hebron day

Three Palestinians were shot dead on Monday by the Israeli army in separate incidents in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, a center of violence for the past few days, Palestinian medical sources said.

The Palestinian Health Ministry announced that 19-year-old Iyad Jaradat was killed during clashes with the Israeli army in Sair town northeast of Hebron.

Spokesperson for the ministry Mohammed Awawda said that Jaradat succumbed to his wounds in a local hospital after a live bullet hit him in the head. Tens of other injuries were reported in these clashes, medics said.

Clashes broke out between the Palestinians and the Israeli forces near Sair after Palestinians were angered by the Israeli army's killing another man in Sair earlier on Monday, Sair Mayour Kayed Jaradat told Xinhua.

22-year-old Raid Jaradat was shot by the Israeli army's fire where his body is still being held by the Israeli authorities, Palestinian sources said.

The Israeli public radio said that an Israeli was severely wounded after Jaradat stabbed him.

In another separate incident, the Palestinian Health Ministry announced that 20-year-old Sa'ad al-Atrash was killed of wounds by the Israeli army's fire. The Israeli army said he attempted to stab a soldier.

Al-Atrash's brother told Xinhua that his brother was coming home from a training course when an Israeli soldier asked to inspect his ID. "When the soldier refused to give my brother his ID, he quarreled with the soldier who shot him," the brother said.

Israeli media outlets said that al-Atrash was attempting to stab a soldier with a knife but he was killed. No injuries were reported.

These incidents bring up the death toll in Hebron governorate since the beginning of October to 61 Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip during this current wave of violence between the Palestinians and the Israeli forces. Fourteen children were killed in these confrontations.

In turn, nine Israelis were killed in stabbing and shooting attacks carried out by Palestinians.

The current unrest was sparked by tension at east Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque compound mid September, where Palestinians rejected new Israeli measures at al-Aqsa. Endit
