Germany should be independent in digitization: Merkel

Xinhua, October 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Germany should not depend on other countries in digitization, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Monday in the southern German city of Nuremberg.

Nowadays everyone is traveling with smart phones on the way, but none of them come from Germany, Merkel said during an event named "dialogue with citizens", which is part of government strategy "live well in Germany".

Although a lot of good products are still produced here in this country, Germany must be careful in some fields, not letting Google take over the entire data processing, Merkel warned.

When it comes to privacy and security, Germany needs a good attitude toward data processing, together with the industry, Merkel noted.

"Germany will make it," Merkel stressed in front of about 60 chosen participants from this region.

According to local media Bavarian Radio, "dialogue with citizens", organized by the federal government, handles mostly this time with digitization, education and so on. The dialogue aims to find out what is important to people in Germany. Endit
