French President Francois Hollande on Monday pledged to help improve economic development and broaden democracy in Cambodia after meeting its Prime Minister Hun Sen.

France, Cambodia's second main donor, would also cement economic cooperation with the Asian state via upcoming several accords, Hollande's office said in a statement.

The French head of state pointed to the necessity to continue reforms and political dialogue between the different facts following the 2013 violent protests after the ruling CPP party and the opposition both claimed victory in general election, it added.

Hollande also hailed Cambodia's role in UN peacekeeping operations, especially in Mali, the Central African Republic and Lebanon.

Speaking about the international conference on climate change, the French president stressed "the vital need" to agree on an accord on global warming which caused natural disasters in many countries, among them Cambodia, the Elysee said. Endit
