Abu Sayyaf releases captive in S. Philippines

The Abu Sayyaf Group had freed a local mining executive after holding him captive for almost six months in the jungle of Sulu, said local security official on Wednesday.

The victim who was released on Tuesday night was identified as Priscillano Garcia, finance officer of a mining company operating in Tumbagaan Island off Tawi-Tawi, said Roy Vincent Trinidad, deputy commander of the Joint Task Force Zambasulta.

Garcia was seized by the group on May 3 inside a resort inn in Bongao town in Tawi-Tawi province.

According to Trinidad, the victim was released about 6:30 p.m. in a village of Indanan town in Sulu province. He was later brought to a military hospital in Jolo for medical checkup and debriefing. Endit
