Australia, China driving record growth in New Zealand tourism

Overseas visitor arrivals in New Zealand last month rose by 12 percent year on year, driven by record numbers from Australia and China, the government statistics agency said Wednesday.

Visitor arrivals to New Zealand numbered 217,000 in September, with arrivals from Australia up almost 10 percent to 113,088, said a commentary from Statistics New Zealand.

China had the highest-ever number of visitors for a September month, up 41 percent to almost 26,000.

In the year to the end of September, visitor arrivals totalled 3.04 million, up 9 percent from the previous year, with Australians numbering 1.3 million, Chinese 327,900 and visitors from the United States 237,300. Endit
