Sydney again braces for storms with two women recovering from lighting strikes

Xinhua, October 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two women are recovering from lightning strikes in thunderstorms that engulfed Sydney on Tuesday, with Australia's weather bureau warning more on the way.

A woman, believed to be in her late 20s, was struck by lighting in Sydney's inner west on Tuesday and remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, local media reported on Wednesday.

A second woman who was struck in western Sydney was taken to hospital for initial treatment but later released.

Australia's bureau of meteorology is predicting the storms to return on Wednesday afternoon, warning residents in New South Wales to prepare for heavy rain and damaging winds.

Sydney itself is expected to see a similar intensity to Tuesday's storms that saw 9,000 lighting strikes within a 40 kilometer radius of Bankstown, Fairfax Media reported.

In a dramatic scene on Tuesday, a Qantas plane was filmed landing at Sydney's International airport when a lightning bolt split the sky above. Endit
