Malaysia hopes monsoon to dispell haze next month

Xinhua, October 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Malaysian meteorological Department said that the haze in Malaysia may come to an end with the northeast monsoon starting from next month despite the continuing fires in Indonesia, local media reported on Wednesday.

The transboundary haze is expected to end by early November thanks to the northeast monsoon form the South China Sea, said Che Gayah Ismail, director general of the meteorological Department, quoted by The Star, a Malaysian English-language newspaper.

According to the meteorological Department, the smoke in Malaysia could be pushed away to the west by the winds from the South China Sea.

It has been reported that the forest fires in Indonesia are unlikely to be put out until next year. In regard to this, Che Gayah said Malaysia would not be affected.

Due to the worsening haze situation in Malaysia, 29 areas in the country recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings Wednesday morning, while the readings in Shah Alam, capital of state of Selangor, reached at a very unhealthy level. Endit
