The Russian Arctic National Park, a natural reserve area covering territory between Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land, reported Thursday a record number of visitor over the summer of 2015.

A total of 1225 people visited the area this year, a 70 percent increase from 2014, according to the National Park's official report.

Among these brave northern travellers, the Chinese cohort was the largest. Forty other nationalities were also represented in the park's 2015 guestbook.

A record 11 cruises were offered in 2015, including seven trips by the nuclear icebreaker 50 Years of Victory.

The Russian Arctic National Park offers visitors breathtaking views of polar scenery as well as the chance to observe the region's unique wildlife in its natural habitat.

Despite the perennial challenge of attracting Russian visitors to the Arctic after the long, cold Russian winter, the Russian Arctic National Park nevertheless confirmed that 6 percent of visitors in 2015 were Russian. Endit
