Austrian unemployment continues to rise in Sept.

The Austrian unemployment rate has continued to rise in September, reaching 8.3 percent as calculated by the domestic method, the Ministry of Social Affairs said Thursday.

In absolute terms, this means 391,417 people in the country are without work, an increase over September 2014 of 6.1 percent. In the national capital of Vienna, an even greater increase of 10.3 percent was registered.

An additional 19,000 accepted asylum seekers are now also searching for work.

More positive however was youth unemployment, measured from 15 to 24 years of age. The total 10.8 percent of unemployed youth is one of the lowest in the EU, with Germany having the lowest rate of 7 percent. Endit
