Bruckner Festival highlighting new wave of culture exchange between China, Austria

Chinese artists are "encountering" Austrian classic music during Bruckner Festival in Austria, leading a new wave of culture exchanges between China and European states.

"I have personally congratulated the conductor. He had done a very good job, he was a good interpreter of European music and I am happy that Chinese and Austrian relations are developing excellently," Austrian president Heinz Fischer told reporters after the opening ceremony, which was conducted by the Chinese conductor, LV Jia, who was appointed as the Music Director of the Trieste Opera in Italy when he was only 26, in the year 1991.

Following a partnership with Russia, festival organisers turned to the partnership with China in 2015, and there will be more intense "encounters" with China this year.

This year the festival has the motto "encounters create special moments," and will run till Oct. 7.

The festival official hoped the festival would result in Austrians gaining a new-found awareness of the impressiveness of Chinese culture and tradition, and the high quality of Chinese musicians and artists.

The Bruckner Festival, named after the famous Austrian composer Anton Bruckner sponsored in part by the city of Linz in Austria, kicked off on Sunday.

"The relations between China and Austria have a solid ground, we had a lot of contracts between Chinese and Austrian economy," "I can give you a very good judgment on the future of Chinese and Austrian relation, I have no doubt that there will be a positive development in the coming years," the Austrian president said proudly.

Zhao Bin, Chinese ambassador to Austria, said he sees the culture exchanges as a very important part in the development of relations between China and Austria.

The program of this year's festival includes concerts by the Macao Orchestra who will play in Austria for the first time, along with the Tian Kong Women's Chorus, numerous solo artists, as well as an exhibition from Linz's sister city Chengdu. Nine evenings will be dedicated to Chinese performances alone.

"Music is great, and is kind of language which has no barrier between people," LV told Xinhua, saying "Anton Bruckner is one of the most greatest composer in the world, it's my pleasure to be here ... I would try my best to play better music here." Endit
