India to evacuate sailors stranded in Yemen

India Sunday said on Sunday that it is taking steps to ensure the evacuation of some 70 sailors stranded in war-ravaged Yemen.

"Our Mission in Yemen (Camp Office in Djibouti) is aware of the situation and taking steps to ensure safe evacuation of Indians," Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said.

The 70 Indians, who come from the western state of Gujarat, have been stranded at Khokha port in western Yemen for the past 15 days, where they had gone to deliver cargo in five boats.

Yemen is devastated by a civil war with Shiite rebels fighting with the government troops, which have left nearly 5,000 people dead since March. Endi
